Dear Runners,

I know that sometimes you just need a little “pick me up”.  Maybe you had a tough week, maybe that project at work isn’t going as well as you’d hoped, or maybe that last run wasn’t as fast as you’d like.  Whatever the reason, we are all human and sometimes you just need to be reminded of how good things are.  So for this note, I am departing from the science, the training and the discipline of running so that we can take a step back and just think about how good running makes us feel.

The following quotes are all related to running somehow and I hope one or all of them speak to you.

  • Strength does not come from a physical capacity; it comes from an indomitable will – Gandhi
  • Now if you are going to win any battle you have to do one thing. You have to make the mind run the body. Never let the body tell the mind what to do. The body will always give up. It is always tired in the morning, noon, and night. But the body is never tired if the mind is not tired.  -Patton
  • You paid for the finish medal go get it!
  • It’s not sweat it’s liquid awesome
  • Me and running don’t always see eye to eye. Some days it hurts more than others. But it doesn’t mean I don’t do it. I deal with it and I keep running because not everything that is good for you doesn’t always feels good for you.
  • Every day is the day.
  • One day I won’t be able to run. Today is not that day.
  • The moment you want to stop is usually the moment just before something amazing happens!!

  • When your legs get tired run with your heart…
  • Motivation gets you started.  Habit keeps you going
  • Run, run as fast as you can, you can’t catch me I’m the Gingerbread man!
  • Run if you can, walk if you have to, crawl if you must, just never give up!
  • To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift. – Steve Prefontaine
  • The real purpose of running isn’t to win a race; it’s to test the limit of the human heart. – Bill Bowerman
  • At the St. Jude Memphis marathon last year, the guy in front of me the whole way had a shirt that said “keep running, because blisters don’t need chemo.”
  • It’s always a good day for running!
